Emotional Freedom Techniques
EFT is a revolutionary health technique that is simple, gentle, and quick. It is an amazingly effective new healing method that works with the mind-body energy system to eliminate all kinds of emotional, mental, physical and spiritual discomfort. It can be likened to acupuncture as it stimulates the energy meridian points on your body, but rather than use needles, we tap these points with our fingertips.
The wonderful thing about the EFT process is that it is easy to memorize, it can be done anywhere and can be used on any condition. After an EFT session the client can then use this valuable skill to treat themselves. This new approach to healing no longer takes months or years of therapy and boxes of tissues to resolve problems. Even mental health professionals and doctors are discovering EFT!
EFT has been proven clinically effective as a simple yet powerful way of releasing fears, phobias, anxieties, angers, addictions, and all kinds of emotional and physical stress related issues. It is achieving remarkable and sustained results, with reported success rates of over 80% across a wide range of applications.
EFT practitioners believe that emotional discomfort is caused by a disruption in the mind/body energy system and combines ancient wisdom (acupuncture) with modern techniques (kineseology).
While tapping on acupressure points along meridians, or pathways of energy throughout the body, and being tuned into a specific problem or issue, the mind/body energy system is "straightened out," and the energy becomes available so we can heal.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is a type of therapy that aims to help you manage your problems by changing how you think and act.
CBT encourages you to talk about:
- how you think about yourself, the world and other people.
- how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings.
By talking about these things, CBT can help you to change how you think (‘cognitive’) and what you do (‘behaviour’), which can help you feel better about life.
CBT is particularly helpful in tackling stress related problems such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and drug misuse.
CBT focuses on the problems and difficulties you have now, rather than issues from your past. It looks for practical ways you can improve your state of mind on a daily basis.
CBT can help you see how your thoughts and behaviour relate to the way you feel, and how this might contribute to problems in your life.
CBT will help you find ways to change your thought patterns and behaviour so you can cope with your problems and anxieties better.
CBT may not remove all your problems, but can help you to manage them in a more positive way and is a most effective treatment.
Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy is very much about relationship and self awareness.
Basically the idea is that the more we come to know and accept ourselves as who we are, the easier it is for us to change. There may be something about ourselves which we don't like, such as our temper, we may have struggled to change to no effect. According to gestalt theory if we learn to understand ourselves, to understand what makes us angry, why we react the way we do and to accept that this behaviour is understandable and even logical given our past experiences, then change becomes possible. Without understanding and acceptance we are effectively fighting ourselves and it is perhaps not surprising that we have little success and much frustration. For this reason the aim of gestalt counselling is to help the client gain self awareness.
This is also the aim of many spiritual paths and there are some similarities between Buddhism and gestalt theory. As individuals we can help to develop our self awareness through self questioning (note this does not mean self criticism) and through meditation. Meditation is a helpful technique for many of those suffering from emotional and psychological problems, as well as those looking for personal and spiritual development.
Affirmations
Every thought you think every word you say is an affirmation. All of our self-talk or inner dialogue is a stream of affirmations. We are continually affirming subconsciously with our words and thoughts and this flow of affirmations is creating our life experience in every moment. Our beliefs are just learned thought patterns that we have developed since childhood, many of these work well for us, but others may now be working against us, they are dysfunctional and may be sabotaging us from achieving what we believe we want. Every affirmation we think or say is a reflection of our inner truth or beliefs. It is important to realize that many of these "inner truths" may not actually be true for us now or may be based on invalid or inappropriate impressions we constructed as children, which if examined as an adult can be exposed as inappropriate.
Do you want to know how to use the power of your mind to heal your body and change your life? Belief is key, you need to truly believe that you can bring about the change:
You need to focus on what you want, not what you don't want. So for example, think 'I am healthy', not 'I don't want to be ill' or 'I am creating a wonderful future for myself', not 'I hate my life'. This is because you get what you focus on, so if you focus on the negative that's what you'll get.
Emotions give power to your thoughts. Positive emotions will help to manifest positive events and negative emotions will help to manifest negative events. So don't just think about what you want, feel it too. Feel how great it will be to be fit and healthy, imagine how it feels, imagine that you feel that way now - see yourself there and experience the emotions.
